MCAS Preparation
The MCAS is an exam system that is required by current Massachusetts law for all students in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 8th and 10th grade depending upon the subject. As required by the Education Reform Law, students must pass the grade 10 tests in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics as one condition of eligibility for a high school diploma.
To perform your best on the MCAS it is important to understand what is on the exam, what to prepare for and what test taking skills you need to quickly complete each
section -- the ASC program helps students master all three.
Our MCAS program features:
- Thorough review of the English and math covered on the MCAS exam.
- Complete review of the test structure and strategies to complete as much of the exam as quickly as possible.
- Effective test taking strategies through extensive practice
With our carefully prepared program and skilled teachers, ASC helps to quickly and dramatically improve your MCAS score. Our students typically improve their score 20 to 30 points in only one eight-week session.
The MCAS exam is made up of four sections—English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science & Technology and History & Social Studies. The grading of each questions depends on the type of question asked and points given for the quality of the answer.
Students will be evaluated on this exam based on a combined score for all four sections. The MCAS scale ranges from 200 to 280. Performance levels correspond to the following score points on the scale:
Advanced (260-280)
Students at this level demonstrate a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of rigorous subject matter and provide sophisticated solutions to complex problems.
Proficient (240-258)
Students at this level demonstrate a solid understanding of challenging subject matter and solve a wide variety of problems.
Needs Improvement (220-238)
Students at this level demonstrate a partial understanding of subject matter and solve some simple problems.
Warning/Failing (200-218)
Students at this level demonstrate a minimal understanding of subject matter and do not solve simple problems.
